The MPI Automotive FX-721 is a set of 1-3/4in extractors with 3in outlets, listed to fit the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 V8 6.2L. It replaces the factory manifolds on that engine.
What do these extractors do?
Extractors, also called headers, replace the cast factory exhaust manifolds with separate tubular runners from each cylinder. The FX-721 uses 1-3/4in primary tubes finishing in 3in outlets, sized for the Silverado 1500's 6.2L V8. The aim is to let the engine breathe out with less restriction than the cast manifolds; it is a change on the exhaust side of the engine rather than an internal power part.
What's the 3in outlet for?
The extractors finish in 3in outlets, which set the pipe size the rest of the exhaust mates to. On a big V8 like the 6.2L Silverado, giving us that outlet size, 3in, means the connecting pipework lines up cleanly behind the extractors.
