The MPI Automotive FX-754 is an extractor set listed to fit the Honda Prelude BA/BB 2.2L and 2.3L non-VTEC with the F22A engine, from 1991 on. It is a tube exhaust manifold for the non-VTEC Prelude four, supplied for restoration and modification.
What does this extractor set cover?
The FX-754 bolts to the cylinder head in place of the factory cast manifold, replacing it with welded steel tubes. It is the first part of the exhaust, taking gases straight off the F22A engine. On the non-VTEC 2.2L and 2.3L Prelude the original manifold is the standard exhaust's main restriction, so a fresh extractor is a logical first change for owners.
What is an extractor and what does it change?
An extractor replaces the cast factory casting with individual tubes that merge downstream, with the aim of reducing the back-pressure each cylinder pushes against. It changes nothing inside the engine. The honest trade-offs are fit and noise: the tubes route differently to the original, so clearance is confirmed on the car, and opening up the front of the system usually makes it a little louder than stock.
