The MPI Automotive MBM197MF is a dual rear muffler for the V8 Holden Monaro coupe. Sitting at the very back of the system, it is the silencer that sets how the Monaro sounds at the tailpipe — the last stage before the gas exits.
What does a rear muffler set on the Monaro?
The rear muffler is the final silencing stage, so it carries the most influence over the note you actually hear behind the car. On the V8 Monaro coupe this is a dual rear unit, feeding the twin-outlet layout the car was built with. Renewing it lets you replace tired, rusted-out rear silencing or fine-tune the character at the back without pulling apart the centre section or the front of the system.
Why the dual rear layout?
The Monaro ran a dual exhaust, and the MBM197MF keeps that twin path at the rear rather than merging it into one outlet. That preserves the symmetry the coupe left the factory with. The supplier lists the body at a 2in bore. As a like-for-like rear replacement it slots into the existing routing, so the rest of the system is undisturbed.
