Built around a 3in bore, the MPI Automotive MKHN0081 is a cat-back muffler system for the VN-to-VS Holden Commodore ute with the 5.0L V8. The 3in pipe is the larger of the bore options and suits the bigger V8 in a ute body, where the run sits under the tray rather than under a sedan floor.
Why a 3in bore on the V8 ute?
A 3in system gives the 5.0L V8 a freer path from the cat back, which is where a worked or simply tired factory ute exhaust tends to choke. The larger bore is the application choice for the bigger engine: it keeps the rear of the system flowing rather than pinching it down to the original size. It runs a muffler to keep the note controlled rather than open, so it lifts the V8 character without turning the cabin into a drum on the highway.
What does a cat-back cover on a ute?
Cat-back means everything from the catalytic-converter flange rearward is replaced — the intermediate pipe, the muffler and the tailpipe — while the front section and the cat stay as fitted.
