The MPI Automotive MKHN0138 is a 3in dual cat-back for the VY HSV V8 sedan, pairing a hotdog resonator with a rear muffler. Twin pipes on the larger bore, with the hotdog tuning out drone — the freer-breathing dual layout for the VY.
What does the hotdog add on a 3in dual?
A hotdog is a compact straight-through resonator: gas passes through a perforated core rather than around baffles, so it targets a drone frequency without choking flow. On the MKHN0138 a hotdog feeds the rear muffler in each line, taming mid-range resonance before the rear box sets the note. On a 3in dual that matters — the larger twin pipes flow freely, and the hotdog is what keeps them civil on the highway.
Why the 3in dual bore?
Three inches is the larger pipe option, and run as a dual it gives the V8 two of them — the freest-breathing arrangement here, suited to a worked or bigger-output engine. Combined with the hotdog-and-muffler pairing, it flows openly but still carries two silencing stages rather than running stripped.
