Built for the petrol Patrol, the Safari SS16HFE is a snorkel listed to fit the Nissan Patrol GU series with the TB48 4.8L petrol engine (Series 2 on). It relocates the engine's air pickup up to the A-pillar, where the air is cleaner and the crossing point is higher.
Why a thirsty petrol six wants a clean intake
The TB48 is the 4.8-litre petrol straight-six that powers a chunk of the GU Patrol range, and like any hard-working engine it draws a lot of air. The SS16HFE lifts that intake from the engine bay up to roof height, so the air filter feeds on cleaner air on dusty tracks and the engine has a higher pickup before water can be ingested. The body is moulded to the GU Patrol's guard and pillar.
