Listed to fit the Isuzu D-Max from 06/2020 and the Isuzu MU-X from 06/2021, the Safari SS177HP snorkel moves the engine's air pickup up to roof height. It's a single moulding cut to suit both the current-shape D-Max ute and its MU-X wagon sibling.
Why fit a snorkel to a D-Max or MU-X?
Both the D-Max and MU-X share Isuzu's current platform, and a snorkel like the SS177HP relocates the intake from the guard to the top of the windscreen pillar. That gives the engine a cleaner air source in dust and a higher pickup point for water crossings. It's a relocation of the intake path, not an engine modification — what changes is where the air is drawn from, not the engine's tune.
One snorkel for two models?
This part is listed across the D-Max (06/2020 on) and the MU-X (06/2021 on), which share the same front-end architecture. Because the two have detail differences, confirm with the workshop which body you have and that the SS177HP matches your exact build before ordering — feed data is a starting point, not a guarantee of fit.
Does it make the vehicle waterproof?
No. The snorkel raises the air intake, but your real water-crossing limit is set by diff, gearbox and transfer-case breathers and by the vehicle's electrics. We fit the SS177HP as one piece of a considered touring setup and talk through the rest with you rather than overselling what a single part does.
How do you fit it at Oak Flats?
Snorkel fitment involves cutting the guard and drilling the body to Safari's template, sealing the unit and ducting it into the factory airbox. Oak Flats Muffler Men carries out this work in-house in the Illawarra, templating and checking clearances before any cut is made.
