The MPI Automotive SSMBM239MF is a dual centre muffler for the V8 Commodore ute, built to suit both left-hand and right-hand exit setups. That dual-exit compatibility is the point: one centre muffler covers utes plumbed either way out the back.
What does "LH and RH exit" mean?
Commodore V8 utes were plumbed with the tailpipe exiting either the left or the right side depending on the build. This dual centre muffler is designed to suit both, so it doesn't lock you into one exit side — the centre section works whether your ute runs a left-hand or right-hand rear exit. It's the centre silencer, ahead of whichever rear exit your ute uses.
What does the dual centre muffler do?
Run as a dual centre it does the mid-system quietening on both banks of the V8 while the gas is still hot, sitting ahead of the rear boxes. It's a chambered absorptive muffler, quietening by absorption rather than choking the engine, so it keeps the ute civil through the middle of the system without strangling flow. Replacing tired centre boxes here also closes the leaks and drone that creep in as the original units rust and split on a hard-worked ute.
