The MPI Automotive SSMBM342MF is a 3in rear muffler for the RAM 1500 V8. It is the right-hand-side rear unit — the silencer that sits at the back of the system on the passenger bank, where the last of the noise control happens before the tailpipe.
What does the RHS rear muffler do?
A rear muffler is the final silencing stage in the system. On the RAM 1500 this is the right-hand-side rear unit, fitting at the back of the truck where it sets the tailpipe note and trims the last of the resonance. Because it is the rear can rather than the centre, swapping it lets you renew a rusted or blowing rear section, or adjust the character at the tailpipe, without disturbing the rest of the run.
