What is a tri-Y extractor and what does it change?
An extractor, also called a header, replaces the cast factory exhaust manifold with separate tubular runners off each cylinder. The FX-691 is a tri-Y design, where primaries pair up in stages before merging rather than all meeting at one collector, built with 1-3/4in primary tubes and a flange fitment. The aim is to let the engine breathe out with less restriction than the cast manifolds; it is a change to the exhaust side of the engine rather than an internal part, and it sits at the front of the system.
