At our Illawarra workshop the Statesman goes on the hoist first for an inspection of the old system. The K-RPM15647 is then fitted from the catalytic converter back, and we check the cat joint, hangers and tailpipe clearance along the long-wheelbase body before the car comes down. What does a cat-back replace?
A cat-back is the rear of the exhaust, covering the intermediate pipe, mufflers and tailpipe behind the catalytic converter. The cat and front pipe stay standard, so the K-RPM15647 renews the corroded rear half of this late-1990s Statesman without touching the emissions hardware. Redback do not publish a pipe diameter or material grade for it.
