What does a straight-through DPF-back give the Hilux?
A straight-through design carries the gas down a perforated core wrapped in packing rather than bouncing it through baffled chambers, so it flows freely and gives a louder, harder note than a chambered muffler. On the 2.8L 1GD-FTV that means a more present diesel voice and minimal restriction in the tailpipe section — the trade for that being less broadband quietening than an absorptive muffler.
What is a DPF-back, and the 3in single bore?
A DPF-back replaces the exhaust from behind the factory diesel particulate filter rearward, leaving the DPF and the emissions hardware ahead of it in place. This is a single 3in run — a larger bore than the standard tailpipe, which is the section a workshop changes to free flow and set the sound on the 1GD Hilux.
