A compact straight-through resonator for the centre of the system, the MPI Automotive MBM774PHD is the 3in centre hotdog for the GWM Cannon ute (2.0L turbo-diesel, 2020–2024). It targets cruise drone without packing the pipe, so it sits between an open centre and a full muffler.
What's a hotdog and who's it for?
A hotdog is a small resonator with a straight-through core — gas passes the centre without the chambering of a conventional muffler. Its job is to knock down the resonant frequency that shows up as drone at steady throttle, while keeping flow close to an open pipe. On the Cannon's 2.0L diesel at 3in, it suits the owner who wants a freer-breathing centre and a fuller note but not the constant cruise drone of running the centre bare.
