What does the rear muffler do on a V6 ute?
The rear muffler is the last silencing stage, mounted at the back where it sets the tailpipe character and takes out the final resonance. On the VE V6 ute the S2054 renews that rear section, so it is the part to swap when the original has rusted or started blowing, or when you want to tidy the note behind the cab without touching the rest of the run. The supplier lists the bore at 2.5in.
Why renew just the rear section?
The rear can carries more of the audible character than the centre, because it is the last thing the gas passes through. Replacing it on its own is the sensible repair when the back of the system has failed but the front and centre are still good — it puts the silencing and the tailpipe note back in order at a lower cost than a full system. It is a like-for-like rear swap.
