A full chambered rear muffler tames a catalytic-converter delete on the MPI Automotive SSMKGW0008: a 3in turbo-back for the 2.0L TD GWM Cannon ute (2020–2025) that keeps the note muted despite the cat being removed — and which, with no cat, is an off-road system.

Why a muffler on a cat-delete system?

Deleting the cat opens the path and changes the character, so pairing it with a chambered rear muffler — a baffled box that quietens by reflection and absorption — keeps the SSMKGW0008 the most subdued of the cat-delete Cannon options. It's the choice for an off-road build that wants the open turbo-back flow without the hard, raw note that comes from running no muffler.

Is the SSMKGW0008 road legal?

No. Because it deletes the catalytic converter on a turbo-back, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is for off-road use only. The rear muffler quietens the note but does nothing for emissions compliance — removing the cat takes out the hardware the Cannon left the factory with, so it can't run registered on public roads.

What does the turbo-back layout cover?

Turbo-back replaces everything from the turbo outlet rearward in 3in pipe, so the larger bore runs the full length on the 2.0L diesel. This configuration deletes the cat for flow but retains a chambered muffler at the rear, giving the quietest finish among the no-cat builds.

What does fitting involve at our Illawarra workshop?

Oak Flats Muffler Men supplies and fits these turbo-back systems in-house across the Illawarra for off-road use. We confirm the Cannon's 2020–2025 build, check muffler clearance over the axle and tank, and discuss whether a cat-delete suits the vehicle before booking.

Common questions

Can the SSMKGW0008 be registered for the road?
No. It's a cat-delete turbo-back, so it isn't ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW. It's for off-road use only.
Why fit a muffler if the cat is deleted?
The chambered rear muffler keeps the note muted, so this is the quietest of the cat-delete options despite the open path. It does not affect road compliance.
