The MPI Automotive SSMKGW0009 pairs a straight-through centre hotdog with a catalytic-converter delete on its 3in turbo-back for the 2.0L TD GWM Cannon ute (2020–2025) — open flow with just enough resonator to take the hardest edge off, and an off-road system.

What does the hotdog add to a cat-delete build?

A hotdog is a compact straight-through resonator — packed tube, not a baffled box — so on the SSMKGW0009 it lightly tidies the note without the flow loss of a chambered muffler. With the cat removed, the system is still very open; the hotdog just trims the rawest resonance off an otherwise loud, free-breathing 3in run from the turbo back.

Is the SSMKGW0009 road legal?

No. It deletes the catalytic converter on a turbo-back system, so it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is for off-road use only. The cat is the emissions hardware the Cannon left the factory with; removing it means the ute can't be run registered on public roads. We fit this for off-road vehicles only.

Where does a turbo-back start?

Turbo-back means the run from the turbo outlet rearward is replaced in 3in pipe, so the larger bore begins where a small 2.0L diesel is most restricted. Deleting the cat opens that path further; the hotdog is the only damping device in the line on this configuration.

What does fitting involve at our Illawarra workshop?

Oak Flats Muffler Men supplies and fits these systems in-house across the Illawarra for off-road use. We confirm the Cannon's 2020–2025 build, check hanger and hotdog clearance, and advise on whether a cat-delete suits how you use the ute before booking the bay.

Common questions

Is the SSMKGW0009 road legal in NSW?
No. It's a cat-delete turbo-back, so it isn't ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW. It's for off-road use only.
How loud is the hotdog compared with no muffler at all?
The straight-through hotdog takes a little edge off versus a no-muffler system, but with the cat removed it's still an open, loud configuration.
