The MPI Automotive SSMKHN0227 runs a single 3in pipe but silences it with a muffler each side — the twin-muffler version of the single-pipe VU-VY-VZ V8 ute system. Both banks merge into one 3in run, then the rear uses two mufflers to keep the note its most controlled.
What makes this build distinct?
It combines a single 3in collector run with a muffler-each-side rear — a less common pairing. The two banks feed one large-bore pipe rather than a full dual, but the silencing is split across two mufflers at the back, giving the most damped note the single-pipe layout can have. That's the difference from the muffler-and-tailpipe single build, which uses one silencer into a tailpipe.
Why a single 3in pipe?
Collecting both banks into one 3in run is a cleaner, lighter alternative to twin pipes the length of the car. A single large-bore pipe flows well while keeping the underbody plumbing simple — a genuine layout choice rather than a cut-down dual, suited to owners who want one main pipe but the fuller silencing of two rear mufflers.
What's in the package?
It's a full extractor-back system. Tube-and-merge extractors replace the cast factory manifolds at the heads — the main breathing restriction on these V8s — then the system merges into a single 3in pipe and finishes through a rear muffler each side. The upgrade runs from the engine all the way to the tail.
