The MPI Automotive SSMKHN0261 runs its 2.5in dual without a rear muffler — it's the no-muffler build of the VY-VZ V8 AWD ute extractor package. Deleting the rear can gives the loudest, most open result in the family, and this kit is also plumbed for the AWD ute driveline rather than a rear-drive layout.
What does running without a muffler change?
With the rear muffler left out, there's nothing damping the note at the back of the 2.5in dual, so the SSMKHN0261 is the most open, loudest configuration of this ute family. Less back-and-forth in a muffler can also mean slightly less restriction at the tail, but the headline difference is volume and a rawer character — choose it knowing it's the unfiltered option, not the quiet one.
Why an AWD-specific ute kit?
A VY-VZ AWD ute carries a transfer case, a front driveshaft and the AWD crossmember in space a rear-drive ute leaves clear, so a standard two-wheel-drive system won't clear the driveline. The SSMKHN0261 is listed for the AWD ute and routed around those parts, which is why fitment is specific to this build rather than every VY-VZ ute.
What's in the package?
It's a complete extractor-back system. Tube-and-merge extractors replace the cast manifolds at the heads — the main flow restriction on these V8s — then a matched 2.5in dual carries the gas back, finishing open without a rear muffler. So you're upgrading from the engine back, with the rear damping deliberately removed.
