What is a Tri-Y header and where does it sit?

A Tri-Y header joins cylinders in two-into-one pairs before merging again, a layout chosen to separate exhaust pulses on a V8. It replaces the cast manifolds with tubular runners that bolt to the heads at the hottest part of the engine bay. Mandrel bending keeps the tube bore consistent through each bend rather than crimping it. It changes the front of the exhaust at the engine, not the system behind it.
