The MPI Automotive FX-100 is an extractor set listed to fit the non-turbo Subaru Forester, Impreza and Liberty with the 2.0L and 2.5L EJ20 and EJ25 engines, 1994 to 2007. It is the bare-steel version of MPI's header for these flat-four Subarus.
What is an extractor and what does it change?
An extractor, or header, replaces the factory cast exhaust manifold with separate tubular runners from each cylinder. The aim is to let exhaust gas leave each cylinder with less restriction than a shared cast manifold. It changes the way the engine breathes on the exhaust side and works as part of a wider system, rather than being a power part on its own.
What's different about a boxer Subaru fitment?
Subaru's EJ engines are horizontally opposed, so the runners wrap around from each side of the engine rather than sitting in a neat row. The FX-100 is designed around that layout for the naturally aspirated EJ20 and EJ25. It is the uncoated version; if you want the heat-retaining silver finish, MPI also lists a ceramic-coated equivalent.
