The MPI Automotive FX-100HPC-S is a ceramic-coated extractor set listed to fit the non-turbo Subaru Forester, Impreza and Liberty with the 2.0L and 2.5L EJ20 and EJ25 engines, 1994 to 2007. The silver ceramic coating is the difference between this part and the bare version.
What does the ceramic coating do?
This is a header for Subaru's flat-four engines, finished in a silver ceramic coating. A ceramic coating is applied to the outside of the tubes to keep heat inside the exhaust and off the surrounding bay, and it gives the part a durable silver finish instead of bare steel that can discolour with heat. It is the same extractor design as the uncoated version, with the coating as the added feature.
What's an extractor on a boxer Subaru?
On a horizontally opposed boxer engine the runners have to wrap around from each side, so a tubular extractor replaces the factory manifolds with equal-length-style tube runners. It changes how the engine scavenges exhaust gas rather than adding any power part inside the engine. On a naturally aspirated EJ it is part of a breathing package, not a standalone power claim.
