The MPI Automotive FX-768 is a set of 1-3/4in extractors with 3in outlets, listed to fit the RAM 1500 V8 Hemi across the DT, DS and TRX. It replaces the cast factory manifolds on those trucks with tubular runners.
What are extractors and what do they change?
Extractors, also called headers, swap the cast factory exhaust manifolds for separate tubular runners off each cylinder. The FX-768 uses 1-3/4in primary tubes finishing in 3in outlets. The point is to let the engine breathe out with less restriction than the cast manifolds give; it is a change to the exhaust side of the engine rather than an internal part, and it works as the first link in the wider system.
What are the 3in outlets for?
The extractors finish in 3in outlets, which set the pipe size the rest of the exhaust mates to. Knowing that outlet figure, 3in, means the connecting pipework behind the extractors lines up cleanly. The 1-3/4in primary and 3in outlet sizes are the dimensions to work from when matching the rest of the system to these headers.
