The MPI Automotive MBM587PHD is a 3in centre hotdog for the Ford Ranger PX and Mazda BT-50. The 3in straight-through design is the headline — it is the free-flowing centre device sized to keep these turbo-diesel utes breathing, not a chambered muffler.
What is a 3in hotdog and what does it do?
A hotdog is a compact straight-through resonator: gas runs through a perforated core wrapped in packing, so flow stays high while the packing takes some of the harshness out. At a 3in bore the MBM587PHD is sized to keep the Ranger PX and BT-50 flowing through the centre of the system while still controlling some of the drone. It is the lighter-touch silencing device for the middle of the run.
