The MPI Automotive MBM681MF is the chambered centre muffler for the Next-Gen T6.2 Ford Everest V6 diesel, built at a 4in bore. Where a delete pipe runs straight, this puts a silencer back in the middle of the system to keep the note in check.
What does the centre muffler do?
A chambered centre muffler quietens by absorbing and reflecting sound through its body, so the Everest's V6 diesel stays more subdued than it would with a straight centre pipe. The MBM681MF does that at a 4in bore — a large diameter for a worked turbo-diesel — so it keeps flow up while still controlling drone through the middle of the run.
Why the 4in centre muffler over a delete?
Choosing the muffler over a without-muffler pipe is the quieter, more liveable path: it suppresses the centre-section drone that an open pipe leaves untouched, which matters on a family wagon used for long highway stints. The 4in bore keeps the section flowing for an upgraded diesel. MPI Automotive lists this as the centre muffler only; the rear is handled elsewhere.
