The MPI Automotive MKFD0060 is a twin-muffler 3in cat-back listed to fit the AU Falcon V8 IRS sedan. Rather than running a single muffler out to a tailpipe, it carries muffler stages front and rear for quieter, more controlled tailpipe note.
What does the twin-muffler layout do?
This system uses two muffler stages instead of one muffler and a plain tailpipe. More chambering in the line gives more absorption, which generally keeps the cabin drone and rear note further down than a single-muffler setup — useful on a V8 sedan driven on the road every day. It's built in 3in pipe and routed for the AU's independent-rear-suspension sedan body.
Why is it cut for the IRS sedan?
The AU's independent rear suspension uses a different cradle and over-axle path to the live-axle cars, so the cat-back's bends and hangers are made to clear it. The MKFD0060 is built around that IRS sedan layout specifically, which is why it has its own part number and isn't interchangeable with the ute or wagon systems.
What stays factory on a cat-back?
A cat-back replaces the run behind the catalytic converter — here, two muffler stages and the connecting pipe — and leaves the cat and engine-side pipework alone. The emissions hardware the sedan left the factory with stays in place. It's the path for owners who want freer rear flow without touching the front of the system.
