The MPI Automotive MKFD0062 is cut for the IRS sedan body — a 3in cat-back listed to fit the AU Falcon V8 sedan with independent rear suspension. It runs a rear muffler and a tailpipe exit, replacing the system from the catalytic converter back.
Why does the IRS body get its own cat-back?
Independent-rear-suspension Falcons carry a different rear cradle and over-axle geometry to the live-axle cars, so the exhaust has to be bent and hung to clear it. The MKFD0062 is built specifically around that IRS sedan layout in 3in pipe, finishing through a single rear muffler and tailpipe. That's why it carries its own part number rather than sharing one with the ute or wagon.
What's a cat-back and what does it leave alone?
Cat-back means the run from the catalytic converter rearward — over-axle pipe, muffler and tailpipe — gets replaced, while the factory cat and the engine-side pipework stay put. For the AU's 3in V8 fitment, that opens the rear flow up while keeping the muffler in place to keep the note measured. The emissions hardware the car left the factory with is untouched.
