The MPI Automotive MKFD0166 is a 2.5in cat-back for the Ford BA/BF V8 one-tonne ute silenced with mufflers. The chambered muffler build is the most subdued of the BA/BF ute cat-backs, leaning on absorption to keep the V8's note in check.
Why the muffler build?
The MKFD0166 runs mufflers rather than a straight-through hotdog or open pipe. A muffler quietens by absorbing and reflecting sound inside a baffled body, so on the BA/BF V8 one-tonne ute this is the quietest of the cat-back options — it keeps volume measured through the rear section. It suits owners refreshing the system without lifting the note. We can't put a number on the sound; the honest test is to hear a comparable fit.
What's the 2.5in cat-back layout?
It runs from the catalytic converter back on a 2.5in bore, carrying the gas along the one-tonne ute's underbody to the rear with mufflers as the silencing stages.
