Stripped right back, the MPI Automotive MKFD0274T-B is a 3in turbo-back for the Ford PX2 and PX3 Ranger that runs no catalytic converter and no muffler — the most open configuration in the range, finishing through a twin black-tip side exit.

Why the cat-delete, muffler-delete build?

This is the freest-flowing layout MPI offer for the PX2/PX3 Ranger: removing both the catalytic converter and the rear muffler clears the two biggest restrictions in the turbo-back run, so gas leaves the 3in pipe with the least back-pressure of any version. The trade-off is loudness and emissions hardware — with nothing reflective or absorptive left in the system, the note is raw, and there is no cat to scrub the exhaust. It is the configuration built for off-road and competition use rather than a quiet daily.

What does a turbo-back cover?

A turbo-back replaces everything from the turbo outlet rearward — a longer span than a cat-back, taking in the section where a turbo-diesel like the Ranger tends to free up. At 3in it is sized for the engine and ends in a twin black-tip side exit rather than over the rear bar.

Is it road legal?

No. Because the MKFD0274T-B deletes the catalytic converter on the Ranger's exhaust, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. There is no softening that around: a cat-delete turbo-back cannot be registered for road use here. Talk to us about a with-cat alternative if the ute is road-driven.
