The MPI Automotive MKFD0304 is the rear-exit 3in turbo-back for the pre-DPF PX and PX2 Ford Ranger 3.2L: it keeps the catalytic converter and runs without a muffler. Cat retained, muffler deleted — a freer-flowing diesel turbo-back that leaves the emissions hardware in place.
What's a with-cat, no-muffler turbo-back?
A turbo-back replaces the exhaust from the turbo outlet rearward, a longer run than a cat-back. This MKFD0304 retains the factory catalytic converter but deletes the muffler, so the 3in pipe flows more freely and runs a harder note than a muffled system, while keeping the cat the Ranger left the factory with. It's the louder, cat-retaining option of the pre-DPF Ranger turbo-backs.
Why the 3in bore on the 3.2L?
At 3in this is sized for the pre-DPF 3.2L diesel Ranger, opening up the turbo-back span where this engine tends to free up. Deleting the muffler keeps the run as unrestricted as possible behind the retained cat — the choice for owners chasing flow and a louder note while keeping the converter.
Is it road legal?
Because the MKFD0304 keeps the catalytic converter, the emissions hardware road compliance turns on stays in place. It does delete the muffler, so confirm the exact build and any NSW noise requirements with the workshop before fitting.
