The MPI Automotive MKIZ0023 is a cat-delete turbo-back built to fit the Isuzu D-Max 3.0L from 2020 on, running a rear muffler but deleting the factory catalytic converter. That cat-delete is the defining choice here: it strips the emissions hardware out of the run, which is why this is an off-road part rather than a road-registrable upgrade.
Why does the cat-delete matter on the MKIZ0023?
Deleting the catalytic converter is the headline of this SKU. On a 3.0L diesel D-Max the cat sits in the road-relevant exhaust path, so removing it changes the legal status of the vehicle. With the converter gone, this turbo-back is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is supplied for off-road use only. There is no softening that — if the ute is driven on public roads, this is the wrong build, and the with-cat version of the same system is what you want instead.
What does a turbo-back cover and why keep the muffler?
A turbo-back replaces the exhaust from the turbo outlet all the way to the tailpipe, a longer span than a cat-back and the section where a diesel tends to free up. This one still finishes through a rear muffler, so even with the cat removed the note stays tempered rather than raw — the muffler does the quietening by absorption and reflection. It is the configuration for a competition or paddock D-Max where you want the cat gone but not an undamped drone.
