The MPI Automotive MKMI0019 is a 3in turbo-back system listed to fit the Mitsubishi Triton MQ, run without the catalytic converter and tuned with a hotdog. The cat-delete defines it: removing the converter makes this an off-road-only build.
Why is this off-road only?
Because the MKMI0019 deletes the catalytic converter, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. A turbo-back replaces the system from the turbo outlet rearward, so it's the section that includes the emissions hardware — and removing the cat from it takes out equipment the MQ Triton needs to be road-legal. We state that plainly before you order.
What does the 3in turbo-back with a hotdog give you?
A turbo-back is the longest span you can replace short of the manifold, and at 3in it's sized for freer flow on the MQ. With the cat gone and only a hotdog — a compact straight-through resonator — doing the tuning, this is the freest-breathing and most open of the MQ builds. The hotdog keeps the worst of the drone out, but expect a louder, harder note than a muffled, cat-retained system.
