A hotdog is a small straight-through resonator — a perforated core wrapped in absorptive packing. On this 80-Series turbo-back it trims the harshest of the drone while keeping flow high, so the MKTY0349 sits between a bare no-muffler run and one carrying a full muffler. You get a tidier note than a straight pipe without giving up much in the way of flow.
Why is it cut for the DTS turbo kit?
This run is matched to the DTS turbo kit, so the front of the 3in system is shaped to that kit's turbo outlet on the HZJ80. A turbo-back replaces everything from the turbo back, which is why the turbo match has to be right — pairing it to the wrong turbo means the front pipe won't sit.
