Why the 4in bore on this V8?
At 4in this is the big-bore turbo-back, matched to the VDJ76's 4.5L turbo-diesel V8 — a larger pipe than the lighter diesels in the workshop tend to run, suited to this engine's displacement and the wagon's weight. The 4in size sets how much the system flows, and on the DPF-model 76-series it is built to clear the standard underbody routing.
What does the cat-delete, muffler-delete build do?
Removing both the catalytic converter and the muffler clears the two biggest restrictions in the turbo-back run, so this is the freest-breathing version for the VDJ76. The flip side is loudness and emissions hardware — with nothing absorptive left, the note is raw, and there is no cat to scrub the exhaust.
Is it road legal?
No. Because the MKTY0370 deletes the catalytic converter on the Landcruiser's exhaust, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. A cat-delete turbo-back cannot be registered for road use here. Ask us about a with-cat version if the 76-series is road-driven.
