Where does a DPF-back sit in the system?
A DPF-back picks up downstream of the diesel particulate filter and replaces the run rearward — shorter than a turbo-back and deliberately leaving the DPF and the emissions hardware in front of it alone. On the 79-Series 4.5L V8 this is the 4in step that frees the back half of the exhaust. Without a muffler in the run, the gas flows with the least restriction, so this is the most open-sounding of the DPF-back builds.
