The MPI Automotive MKTY0407 pairs a rear muffler with a cat-delete — a 3in turbo-back for the Toyota Landcruiser GDJ79 2.8L turbo-diesel ute from 2023 that runs the freest engine-back path but still tames the rear note. It is the off-road build for owners who want flow without a fully open, droning rear.
Muffler on a cat-delete run
Deleting the cat opens the engine-back run, and the rear muffler then settles the tone so the GDJ79 does not run completely raw. A muffler quietens by absorption and reflection, so even with the cat removed the MKTY0407 keeps the 2.8L diesel's note the calmest of the no-cat options — flow up front, manners at the rear. It suits a competition or off-road ute where you still want to live with the sound.
Why the cat-delete keeps it off-road
This build runs without the catalytic converter. Removing the cat from the engine-back run means it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is for off-road use only. The rear muffler does not change that — the missing cat is what decides registration on a diesel ute, so speak to the workshop about your intended use first.
