The MPI Automotive MKTY0412 finishes its 3in dual turbo-back run through a hotdog resonator rather than a full chambered muffler — a compact straight-through unit that trims drone while keeping the system free-flowing. It's listed to fit the Toyota LandCruiser GDJ79 Ute 2.8L (2023 on).
What does the hotdog do on this system?
A hotdog is a short straight-through resonator: gas passes through a perforated core wrapped in packing, so it takes the edge off resonance without the back-pressure of a baffled muffler. On the MKTY0412 that means a turbo-diesel note that's present and a touch firmer than stock, but settled enough to live with on the highway. It sits in a 3in dual layout sized to the GDJ79's 2.8L, with the resonator doing the work a full chambered muffler would otherwise handle.
Is it road legal in NSW?
This is a turbo-back configuration without the catalytic converter, so it removes emissions hardware the GDJ79 left the factory with. As supplied it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road and competition use only.
