Ford Falcon AU V8 Sedan IRS Dual 2 1/2in Centre Muffler (SSMBM228MF) fits selected vehicle.
Category: Mufflers and resonators

The MPI Automotive SSMBM228MF is a dual centre muffler matched specifically to the IRS (independent rear suspension) AU Falcon V8 sedan. The IRS callout matters: the independent-rear cars route their exhaust around different rear-end geometry to the live-axle Falcons.
An independent rear suspension AU Falcon carries its diff and subframe differently to a live-axle car, and the exhaust has to route around that geometry. This dual centre muffler is the version matched to the IRS cars, so it clears the independent rear setup rather than fouling it. Fitting a live-axle part to an IRS Falcon — or the reverse — usually means clearance trouble.
It's the mid-system silencing for both banks of the V8, sitting ahead of the rear boxes. Run as a dual centre it does much of the quietening while the gas is still hot, keeping the AU V8 civil through the middle of the system. It's a chambered absorptive muffler.
It's listed to fit the Ford Falcon AU sedan with the V8 and the IRS rear end. Confirm your exact AU series and that your car is the IRS build with the workshop before ordering.
Oak Flats Muffler Men fits dual centre mufflers in-house across the Illawarra, checking the clearances around the IRS subframe on your AU V8. MPI Automotive lists it at $1,124.24; send your AU details through and we'll confirm the fit and that it's the IRS car.
