The MPI Automotive SSMBM236PHD is a stainless centre muffler for the Toyota Landcruiser 300 Series V6. It's the middle silencer for the newest twin-turbo V6 Cruiser, supplied as a single centre section in the corrosion-resistant stainless build.
What does the centre muffler do on the 300 Series?
A centre muffler sits in the middle of the run and does the bulk of the quietening before gas reaches the rear of the truck. On the 300 Series V6 it's the section you change to alter the note from the middle of the system; replacing it lets you tune the Cruiser's voice without touching the front or rear sections. It's supplied as a single centre piece rather than a full system.
Why the stainless construction?
This is the stainless version, which is the durable path for a vehicle built to cover serious distance and rough country. Stainless resists the corrosion that comes with creek crossings, dust and long touring kilometres, so the centre section holds up on a 300 Series used the way these wagons are, as long-haul, go-anywhere tourers.
