The MPI Automotive SSMBM368MF brings a 3in bore to the performance Falcon ute — the centre muffler for the BA/BF XR6 Turbo and XR8 ute. The 3in pipe size is what marks this out, sized for the boosted and V8 utes rather than the six.
Why 3in on the ute?
A 3in bore frees up flow for the higher-output BA/BF utes — the XR6 Turbo and XR8 push more gas than the base six. The SSMBM368MF carries that 3in flow through a chambered centre muffler mid-system, keeping the larger bore intact while doing the bulk of the quietening before the rear of the ute.
What does the centre muffler govern?
As the mid-system silencer, it shapes the cruise note more than the tailpipe bark, absorbing and reflecting sound before the gas reaches the back. On a 3in performance ute it's the middle ground between an open pipe and a heavily baffled box — flow kept up, resonance kept down.
