The MPI Automotive SSMBM641MF is a centre muffler for the 4.0L V6 Toyota FJ Cruiser. It sits in the middle of the system, where it takes out the cruise-speed resonance before the gas reaches the rear of the wagon.
What does the centre muffler do on the FJ Cruiser?
On the 4.0L V6 FJ Cruiser the centre muffler carries the main silencing through the middle of the car, settling the mid-frequency boom that builds at cruise. The SSMBM641MF renews that section, so it is the body to swap when the original has rusted or started blowing but the front pipes and rear are still serviceable. The supplier lists the body at a 2in bore.
