Why stainless on the driver's-side rear?
Corrosion life is the reason this SSMBM730MF-818 exists. The rear muffler sits low in the splash zone, and on a heavily used Silverado the aluminised alternative is the part that rots out first. Stainless shrugs off road salt and moisture far better, so it's the unit you choose when you'd rather fit the left-hand rear silencer once than replace it later.
What is this muffler's job?
It's the left-hand rear silencer — the last chambered box on the offside, feeding the rear exit on that bank. The chambers reflect and absorb the 6.2L V8's pulses to settle the note before the gas clears the pipe.
