The MPI Automotive SSMBM731MF-STUB is the tray-and-canopy version of the right-hand 3in rear muffler for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 V8 — it carries a stub outlet so the tailpipe can be routed to suit a fitted tray or canopy rather than the standard rear exit.

Why the stub outlet?

The defining feature here is the stub. On a Silverado wearing a tray or canopy, the factory rear exit often fouls the body, the wheels of a tray, or a rear bar. This RH muffler is built with a short stub instead of a finished tailpipe, so the workshop can run the pipe out at the angle and length the conversion actually needs. It's the same 3in body sized for the 6.2L V8, just packaged for a modified back end.

What does a rear muffler do here?

A rear muffler is the last chambered silencer in the run, sitting on the right-hand side to feed the kerb-side outlet. It quietens the V8 by reflecting and absorbing sound inside the body before the gas leaves the pipe. At 3in it's matched to a free-flowing system rather than a restrictive stock one, so it keeps the note controlled without choking the back half of the exhaust.

Will it suit my Silverado build?

It's listed to fit the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 and is the right-hand rear unit — pair it with the matching left side for a full rear set. Because the stub is the whole point, confirm your tray or canopy layout with the workshop so we can plan the tailpipe routing before fitting.

What does fitting involve at our Illawarra workshop?

Oak Flats Muffler Men fits and finishes these in-house across the Illawarra. With a stub-outlet muffler the work is in the tailpipe: we mock up the exit to clear your tray or canopy, then weld and hang it. Bring the truck with the tray fitted so we measure against the real clearance, not a guess.

Common questions

What makes the SSMBM731MF-STUB different from the standard one?
It comes with a stub outlet instead of a finished tailpipe, so the exit can be routed to suit a tray or canopy. The muffler body itself is the same 3in right-hand rear unit.
Is this the left or right side?
This is the right-hand (RH) rear muffler. For a full rear pair you'd run it with the matching left-hand unit.
Do I need to bring my truck in?
For a stub version, yes — the tailpipe is cut and routed to your tray or canopy, so we measure and finish it against your actual setup at the workshop.
