The MPI Automotive SSMKCH0005 is a cat-back exhaust for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 6.2L V8, built with centre and rear mufflers. Running two mufflers in the run keeps the big petrol V8 controlled rather than raucous, from behind the catalytic converter back.
What does the cat-back cover on the Silverado?
A cat-back replaces the exhaust from behind the catalytic converter to the tailpipe, so the SSMKCH0005 swaps the rear of the system on the 6.2L V8 Silverado 1500 without touching the cat or the headers. It is the tailpipe-side upgrade for the full-size truck, sized to the big petrol V8.
Why centre and rear mufflers?
This system runs a muffler in the centre of the run and another at the rear. Two mufflers damp the 6.2L V8 by absorption and reflection at two points, keeping the note controlled across a heavy truck rather than letting it boom.
