The muffler is what sets this one apart from the bare-pipe version: the MPI Automotive SSMKCH0035 is a 4in cat-delete turbo-back that keeps a rear muffler, listed to fit the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD 6.6L V8 turbo-diesel (2017–2019). It deletes the catalytic converter but retains a silencer, so it is the cat-delete build that still tries to keep the note civil.
Why keep the muffler on a cat-delete system?
Running cat-delete opens the system up, but it does not have to be raucous. The SSMKCH0035 keeps a rear muffler in the run, so a chambered silencer still does the job of absorbing and reflecting sound before the gas leaves the tailpipe. On a big 6.6L turbo-diesel that means a fuller note than stock without the full straight-through bark of a no-muffler build — the same cat-delete plumbing, but with the volume reined in at the back.
Is it road legal?
No — the SSMKCH0035 deletes the catalytic converter on a road-relevant turbo-back, so it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is for off-road use only. Keeping the muffler controls the noise, but it does not restore the emissions equipment the truck needs to be registered on public roads here.
What does the 4in turbo-back cover?
