The MPI Automotive SSMKFD0083 is a 2.5in dual cat-back for the V8 Ford Falcon AU ute that adds a hotdog resonator ahead of the muffler. The hotdog-and-muffler pairing targets drone as well as overall volume across the twin 2.5in pipes.
Why a hotdog and a muffler together?
Pairing a hotdog with a muffler splits the job: the hotdog is a slim straight-through resonator that trims a cruise drone frequency, and the muffler damps overall volume. On the SSMKFD0083 that combination gives the V8 Falcon ute a cleaner cruise than a muffler alone, across the 2.5in dual layout. No sound level is published by the supplier.
What does the 2.5in dual sizing do?
