The quietest cat-delete option in stainless: the MPI Automotive SSMKFD0255T-B is a 3in turbo-back for the Ford PX2 and PX3 Ranger that keeps a full rear muffler while deleting the cat, finishing through twin black tips at the side.
Why keep the full muffler?
Among the cat-delete builds, this is the most restrained: a full chambered muffler does the most of any silencer to absorb and reflect sound, so the SSMKFD0255T-B holds the note down where the no-muffler and hotdog versions lift it. It suits an owner who wants the bigger 3in turbo-back and the stainless construction but not a loud cabin on the highway.
What does the stainless build add?
The SS prefix is the stainless version. Stainless stands up to the internal corrosion that condensation and diesel exhaust drive through a working ute's pipework, so it is the longer-life choice over an aluminised equivalent — sensible on a 4x4 that sees water crossings and coastal air.
Is it road legal?
No. Even with the muffler keeping it civil, the SSMKFD0255T-B deletes the catalytic converter, so it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is for off-road use only.
