A hotdog in stainless: the MPI Automotive SSMKFD0256T-B is a 3in turbo-back for the Ford PX2 and PX3 Ranger that swaps a full muffler for a compact straight-through hotdog resonator, deletes the cat, and exits through twin black tips at the side.
What does the hotdog do here?
A hotdog is a small straight-through resonator — perforated core wrapped in packing — that takes the hard edge off the note without the volume drop of a chambered muffler. In this build it is the only silencing element, so the SSMKFD0256T-B lands between the fully open no-muffler version and a full-muffler one: present and free-breathing, but with the rasp knocked back.
Why the stainless version?
The SS prefix marks the stainless build. Stainless resists the internal corrosion that condensation and acidic diesel exhaust drive in a working ute, so it is the longer-life option over an aluminised equivalent — worth it on a vehicle that earns its keep off-road.
Is it road legal?
No. The SSMKFD0256T-B deletes the catalytic converter, so it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is for off-road use only. The hotdog quietens the note but does nothing for emissions compliance — the missing cat is the issue. Ask us about a with-cat build if the Ranger is registered for the road.
