Built in stainless, the MPI Automotive SSMKFD0273T-B is a 3in turbo-back for the Ford PX2 and PX3 Ranger that keeps the catalytic converter but runs no muffler, exiting through twin black tips at the side.
Why stainless?
The SS prefix marks this as the stainless build of the with-cat, no-muffler turbo-back. Stainless resists the corrosion that eats aluminised tube from the inside on a hard-worked diesel — the condensation and acidic exhaust that pool in a ute living between job sites and beach tracks. It is the longer-life path, and the reason this version sits above its plainer sibling on price.
What does keeping the cat but losing the muffler do?
Deleting the rear muffler opens the system up and lifts volume, while retaining the catalytic converter keeps the emissions hardware the Ranger left the factory with in place. That makes this the louder-but-cat-equipped middle ground in the range: more note than a full-muffler build, without throwing away the cat.
Is it road legal?
Because the SSMKFD0273T-B keeps the catalytic converter, it leaves the key emissions component fitted — the sticking point for diesel-ute compliance. Loudness from deleting the muffler is a separate consideration.
