The centre-muffler delete is what defines the MPI Automotive SSMKFD0280 — a 3in DPF-back listed to fit the Next-Gen T6.2 Ford Ranger 4cyl 2.0L bi-turbo. It keeps the diesel particulate filter and runs without a centre muffler for a freer mid-section.
What does dropping the centre muffler do here?
Leaving the centre muffler out of the run clears a chambered restriction from the middle of the system, so gas moves more freely and the note lifts over a fully muffled build. On the 2.0L bi-turbo Ranger that's a measured change — more presence behind a diesel four, not a hard performance note. The DPF and downstream pipework still keep the worst of any drone in check.
What does a DPF-back cover on the Ranger?
A DPF-back replaces the exhaust from the diesel particulate filter rearward, leaving the DPF and the emissions hardware ahead of it in place. At 3in it's stepped up from the factory rear section, sized for the bi-turbo four. It's the rear-section upgrade rather than a full engine-back change — the filter stays where the factory put it.
Is the DPF retained?
Yes. As a DPF-back, the diesel particulate filter and the emissions hardware in front of it remain fitted, keeping the Ranger closer to factory emissions behaviour than a filter-delete would.
