The MPI Automotive SSMKIZ0040 is the off-road answer in the MU-X turbo-back range: cat deleted for the freest engine-back path, with a hotdog at the rear so the note is not completely raw. It is listed for the Isuzu MU-X 3.0L (2017–2025).
Why this build is off-road only
Deleting the catalytic converter is what defines this SKU. With the cat stripped out of the engine-back run, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is sold for off-road and competition use only. On a DPF diesel like the MU-X the missing cat is the line that decides registration, so there is no softening it — this is a track and off-road part.
The hotdog keeps it from running raw
A hotdog is a small straight-through resonator that trims the hard edge and some drone without the reflection of a chambered muffler. Because the cat-delete already opens the run right up, the hotdog is what stops the MU-X being completely uncorked at the rear. It lands between an open system and a muffler build — a deeper tone with a touch of restraint for an off-road ute you still spend time in.
Where the turbo-back sits on the DPF MU-X
A turbo-back replaces the run from the turbo outlet rearward, a longer span than a cat-back, and on the 2017–2025 MU-X it covers the DPF-back plumbing around the factory diesel particulate filter location. MPI Automotive lists the SSMKIZ0040 at $2542.82, generally ordered in to suit your build.
